After weeks of preparation, the event of a lifetime has come/gone. At least Donny’s lifetime that is. Which is a few days shy of being three years, so that’s not too bad, I’d say! Donny has been infatuated with Captain America for the last while. Of course, the last three days he has wanted me to change everything to Jake and the Neverland Pirates. That did not happen. But I think all in all he was pleased with the result… even if he had to share with his friends.
Really, I think he just wanted to eat cake and blow out candles. I could have saved a lot of heartache had I figured that out sooner. Oh, well. We had fun getting to know some people in our ward better and letting them in on a bit of our crazy. It was a good night (and I am glad its over!)
Decorations… I love these ruffle streamers! Made some for shey’s sixth birthday, and cranked some out for this one, too. At least I’ll be able to use them for 4th of July, right?! (close up of the streamer below, as the one above doesn’t show off its true awesomeness… which I can say because they are totally not my idea, I just copied pinterest)
I want you to look closely at the strawberries below. This is how many strawberries you get for $10 in October. Because the rest of them went bad, even though I just bought them yesterday. 10 pounds of strawberries and I ended up with MAYBE 2 pounds that were still okay. Note to self: never do strawberries in October again.
and here is the cake… Donny was so excited about it! I was okay with how it turned out, but really want to take classes so I know what I’m supposed to be doing instead of making it up as I go along. (thank you youtube)
This was one of our games… it was a ‘pin the tail on the donkey’ type game, but rather than having one target the kids had shields and they were just trying to get ANY of the bad guys. Thank you Ben Bodrero for turning it into a racist game by telling all the kids to ‘only try to hit the black guys.’
of course I had to make a wreath for the front door! You probably can’t tell from the picture, but it was even glittery!
figured I better get a picture of my kids before all chaos broke loose! Donny’s sporting his new Iron Man shirt (couldn’t find a captain america shirt in his size… but he was perfectly content with this one!)
so excited for his clay!
such an awesome picture on so many levels… and another Note to self: A pool full of packing peanuts turns into a basement full of packing peanuts.
“say cheese!” … apparently translates to “strike the oddest muscle pose ever!”
best part of the night… blowing out his candles! Although it was more of a heavy breath on them than a blow, really. But he got them all out!
this was a punching wall game that Donny was SO SO SO excited about. He’s been waiting to punch this wall for like two weeks! I believe what he told me (last week) was: “I’m going to PUNCH IT! and then I’m going to find a candy inside. And then I will say ‘mom can you open this candy for me?’ and then I’m going to eat it.”
after everyone went home, the kids put their PJ’s on and played in the balloons while Mom & Dad tried to straighten up a bit.
what cute kids I have! Their joy makes all the work TOTALLY worth it!
